Unmindful of the blistering heat, actor Janani is busy shooting for her film Thollaikatchi, which features actor Ashwin in the lead along with her. The film, being directed by M Sadiq Khan, who formerly worked as an assistant director to A R Murugadoss, is a full-length comedy with a dose of satire.

Talking to City Express, Janani says, “I play a proper village belle and Ashwin plays a wannabe actor in this film, which is a full-fledged comedy. There is satire in it, but then, that only constitutes a small portion. The film is about how a village, which has never seen a television before, reacts when they eventually get to know of its presence.”

The film, Janani says, will certainly not be preachy and definitely impress audiences. “Although Ashwin and I play the lead, there are other love stories that run parallel in the film. In fact, the film has six main characters and a number of other supportive characters,” says the actor, who discloses that work on the film is progressing at a brisk pace.

Stating that they have completed a major portion of the film, the actor says, “We’ve been shooting for long hours with very little time to rest. We will be shooting until May 10. We still have a song left to shoot for this film. Once that is done, the film is likely to hit screens this summer.”

Thollaikaatchi will not be the only film of the actor to hit screens this summer. “I will also have another film titled Vidhi Madhi Ultaa which will be released this summer,” she says with excitement. “This script was really mind-blowing and the way he director Vijay Balaji, a former assistant director of A R Murugadoss, narrated it was just amazing. I felt like I was watching the film,” says Janani.

Giving out details about her role in the movie, she says, “ I play a college girl in the film, which is about a chain of events that happen. Something that is similar to The Butterfly Effect (2004). The events are told in a very comical way and there is also a justification for why they happen. This is a film that will definitely be new to Tamil cinema. It is a light-hearted movie.”

She is all praise for her co-star in this film, Rameez of Darling 2 (2016) fame. “Rameez is a newcomer but he is eager to learn. He plays a wonderful character in this film,” says the actor who informs that the talkie portions of this film are completed.

“There are just two songs left to be shot for this film. I believe they will be shooting them either in Chennai or Pondy. Once that is done, this film too will be released this summer,” she says.

The actor has already signed another big project. However, she is tight-lipped about it. She grins, “I have signed another film. However, I cannot disclose the details. That will have to come from the production side first. However, when I am allowed to disclose information, I will let you know first.”

What’s cooking?

Janani is shooting for Thollaikatchi, a comedy film in which she plays a village girl. In her other upcoming film, Vidhi Madhi Ultaa, she plays a college student. Both movies are set to hit screens this summer
