MAHALINGAPURAM: Veteran Tamil film journalist and historian Film News Anandan breathed his last on Monday at his residence in Mahalingapuram.

He was 90. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

The respected journalist, who has won a number of awards including the state’s highest honour of Kalaimamani, had been unwell for quite some time.

Known for having chronicled the entire history of Tamil cinema almost single-handedly,  right from the time of its origin in 1931, Anandan nurtured the dream of having a permanent exhibition on Tamil cinema, where the public could access his phenomenal work.

In 2003,Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was then the Chief Minister of the State, had encouraged Anandan by acquiring his work and helping him bring out a book on Tamil cinema.

The veteran film historian’s body will be kept for the public to pay homage. The funeral is to take place in Nungambakkam on Tuesday.
