Actor Ponvannan on Monday resigned from the post of Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam citing personal reasons.

Though the veteran actor hasn't officially announced his reasons for quitting the Sangam post, media reports suggest Ponvannan has tendered his resignation as he is unhappy with General Secretary Vishal's decision to contest the RK Nagar polls.

Ponvannan was part of Vishal's 'Pandavar Ani' which had opposed then Nadigar Sangam President Sarathkumar, one of the reasons being his political connections. Pandavar Ani won the elections to the Nadigar Sangam with Ponvannan becoming the Vice President and Vishal the General Secretary. The team had mutually decided to keep politics out of the Sangam

However, actor Vishal recently surprised everyone with his decision to contest the upcoming RK Nagar bypolls. The actor's nomination was later rejected after a huge controversy and drama.

Many from the film fraternity questioned how Vishal, who is also the President of the Tamil Film Producers Coucil, could contest in an assembly bypoll while he's still holding the post.

Now actor Ponvannan who was considered one of Vishal's close aides has submitted his resignation to Nadigar Sangam president Nasser. His resignation, reportedly, has not been accepted and several members including Vishal are said to be in talks asking Ponvannan to reconsider his resignation.
