CHENNAI: The official first-look promo of 'Peranbu', director Ram's critically acclaimed Mammootty-starrer, was unveiled on Sunday.

The film, which portrays the relationship between a father and his differently-abled daughter, has drawn attention with its world premiere at the 2018 International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in January. It was the only Indian film to make it to top 20 in the Audience Award category at Rotterdam.

Mammootty plays Amudhavan and National Award winner Sadhna plays Paapa in the film. Anjali, who was seen before in 'Kattradhu Tamil', plays Viji.

The film introduces Anjali Ameer, a transgender actor from Kerala.

'Peranbu', also titled 'Resurrection', is director Ram's fourth film and is set to release in Tamil and Malayalam.

The writer-director's previous films have also received strong critical acclaim. His second film 'Thanga Meengal' won three awards at the 2013 National Film Awards.

The teaser, apart from providing a quick sneak-peek, shows the various accolades received by the film and director Ram's interaction with the audience at the film's Asian premiere at the 2018 Shanghai International Film Festival. It was also nominated for NETPAC Award, an award given to best Asian films.

"Here, everyone thinks Indian cinema is just Bollywood. But it's not just Bollywood," Ram is heard saying in the teaser.

The audio launch is to be held on July 15, 2018, at Chennai.
