AMusic composer Shabir’s debut film Sagaa is around the corner but the young composer already has two more films getting ready for release, having signed an additional two as well. It’s not surprising though, considering the track Yaayum from Sagaa, which was released as a single two years ago, has received more than 1.8 crore views so far.

Interestingly, Shabir has composed lyrics for all the seven numbers with the track having the big names of Andrea Jeremiah, Naresh Iyer and Hari Hara Sudhan besides the composer.

On the crowd-favourite Yaayum, Shabir says, “My friendship with director Murugesh goes a long way and it was simple to come up with the track, when he explained the importance of the number, and said it comes at a crucial moment of the thriller.”

The composer also promises a different feel of Andrea’s huskiness in the Semma Piece track. Moving away from Sagaa, Shabir has the sequels of Neeya and Dhillukku Dhudu, both nearing completion. Mention Neeya, and the first thing that comes to our mind is the ever-green Ore Jeevan track which had two versions of SP Balasubramaniam and Vani Jayaram. Shabir says the highlight of the sequel is in the number getting a tweak. “Working on a successful number is not easy as the onus is on me to ensure that the soul is not lost. The makers are keen that the number be in tune with Raai Laxmi’s movements.”

Shabir, a Singapore resident, has seen his fair share of struggles. “I am privileged to handle scores of corporate shows and happy to render free service to the youth. Though the crime rate is low in Singapore, there are many distractions for the youth. The government is keen that young minds not get polluted. I have been vested with the responsibility.”

The composer is also a singer, having sang for Ghibran in Vathikuchi. “I could have focussed on singing alone but deep inside there was the urge to make music.”
