After numerous delays, the release date for Vijay Sethupathi’s dark, romantic comedy Rummy has been finalised at last. The movie, which was supposed to have released on November 14, is scheduled to hit the screens on January 31.

Directed by debutante Balakrishnan, Rummy’s release was delayed to December 6 at first. But the movie was again delayed, due to unforeseen circumstances – the industry speculated that the movie might be out during the Christmas weekend, on December 27. But it went in vain as the release became delayed again due to the lack of good screens available.

The movie is highly anticipated solely because of indie-movie-poster-boy Vijay Sethupathi, for whom 2013 turned out to be a blockbuster year of sorts with Soodhu Kavvum and Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. Rummy’s release in 2014 also ups his numbers for this year. He has four more releases lined up, including one right on the heels of Rummy – Pannaiyarum Padminiyum on February 7. The other three movies are Purampokku, Vasantha Kumaran and Idam Porul Eval, of which the latter two are still in the pre-production phase.

The film, which is touted to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller set in the 1980s, also stars Inigo Prabhakaran, Gayathrie Shankar, Iyshwarya Rajesh and Soori. The music for film has been composed by Kumki fame D Imman.
