High Court moved for Chiru son's film 'Toofan' release

In the light of threats to stall the release of films starring Ramcharan Teja, son of Union minister Chiranjeevi, a writ petition was filed in the High Court on Wednesday seeking directions to the State government and the police to ensure release and exhibition of Zanjeer and Toofan movies, scheduled for September 6 throughout the state.

Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt Ltd, which has produced the bilingual film starring Ramcharan Teja (Zanjeer in Hindi and Toofan in Telugu), submitted that certain elements, using the ongoing agitation against state bifurcation, have threatened to stall the release of the above films.

The petitioner firm said it has invested several crores of rupees to produce, market and distribute the two films and also contracted with several cinemas for exhibiting the films from September 6. Hence, it would be impossible to defer the release.

There was no response to a representation made to the police seeking security for distribution and exhibition of the films, the firm said and requested the court to direct the authorities to take steps ensuring a smooth release of both the films. Principal secretary to home and director general of police were named as the respondents. The matter is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday.
