HYDERABAD: Tollywood's budding comedian Vijay Sai, who shot into fame with his role in the blockbuster movie Bommarillu, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Yousufguda of Jubilee Hills here on Monday.
Vijay had been staying alone after his wife separated from him. Housekeeper, who came to clean his flat on Monday morning, noticed Vijay's body hanging from the ceiling fan and informed apartment association members.
Sub-inspector Shankar, who visited the spot after he was informed about the incident by Vijay's neighbours, said Vijay had taken his own life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his flat. The actor's body was shifted to a mortuary for conducting the postmortem on it, the SI added.
Police suspect that family issues and lack of film chances in Tollywood might have forced the young actor to commit suicide.
Vijay had disputes with his wife Vanitha. She has been staying at her parents' residence along with her daughter for several months. His father alleged that Vanitha demanded gold and cash from Vijay after she had started living separately. "Yesterday, some persons came to Vijay's flat and took away his Swift car forcibly. Following the incident, Vijay got depressed and took the extreme step," Vijay's father said.
Sai made his debut in the Telugu film industry in 2001 and acted in hit films such as 'Bommarillu' and 'Ammayilu Abbayilu'.
The police official said a case had been filed and they were examining a video clip purportedly recorded by Sai before his death.
