It’s not often you see a love story made with a backdrop of dog-napping. Raj Tarun’s latest offering Kittu Unnadu Jagratha is an unconventional love story, which certainly has its moments. While the acting leaves room for improvement, the comic element makes up for it, making it an entertaining package on the whole.
The protagonist Krishnamurthy alias Kittu (Raj Tarun), is a mechanical engineering graduate who works in a garage with his three friends and aims to own it someday.
He meets Janaki alias Jaanu (Anu Emmanuel) and love blossoms between them. Jaanu’s father (Nagababu) is an upright Income Tax officer who relentlessly goes after black money hoarders.
When Jaanu tells her father about her love, he decides to test her boyfriend and asks her to leave a bag of cash amounting to `25 lakh in his garage. That night, one of Kittu’s friends steals the money and flees. In order to save face, Kittu puts `10 lakh he has been saving (for owning the garage) and borrows `15 lakh from a local don (who removes kidneys of defaulters and sells them to recover the amount).
Then we have another bad guy AR (Arbaaz Khan). He is mentioned to be a ‘blackmailer’ in passing references, but otherwise little is known about what exactly he does and how he happens to have truckloads of cash.
In order to save his life, Kittu goes on a dog-kidnapping spree. Eventually, Jaanu gets to know that he kidnaps dogs and seeks ransom from the pet’s owners. She breaks up with him. How the hero sorts out the mess and reunites with the love of his heart forms the rest of the story.
The climax reminds one of Enemy of the State, where the two sets of bad guys (in this case, AR’s men and the local don’s men) get their guns drawn, face-to-face. But unlike the Hollywood movie where they all die in the shootout, here, miraculously, no one gets injured by the scores of bullets whizzing past.
While the songs are a letdown, Anu Emmanuel looks gorgeous and emotes well. Raj Tarun needs to do better with his acting skills. Raghu Babu provides the much needed comic relief in his role as Nimasi Baba.
All in all, with a decent storyline and funny scenes in between, Kittu Unnadu Jagratha is a one-time watch.
