Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's 'Spyder', releasing on 27 September, was the second biggest Telugu release after 'Baahubali 2', which was released in over 1,000 screens in the US.
Tollywood's Superstar Mahesh Babu was born on 9th August 1971 and we must say he doesn't seem to have aged after 21. Delivering colossal hits like 'Athadu', 'Pokkiri' and 'Dookudu', Mahesh has inspired fans and critics with his stellar screen presence and selection of films. Here are 10 interesting facts about the birthday boy.
Son of veteran Telugu actor Krishna, Mahesh Babu acted in nine films before making his debut as a lead actor in films. The films include Koduku Diddina Kapuram, Poratam, Needa, Bazar Rowdy, Shankharavam, Mugguru Kodukulu, Gudachari 117, Bala Chandrudu and Anna Thammadu.
Following dad Krishna's insistence, Mahesh he took a break from films in 1990 to concentrate on his studies. He made his debut with 'Raja Kumarudu', opposite Bollywood actress Preity Zinda in 1999.
Tamil actor and Suriya's brother Karthi was his Schoolmate at St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai.
Mahesh Babu, who has starred in 22 films as a lead actor has become reference point for actor in other languages to remake films. Most famously, 'Pokkiri' served as a resurgence tool for two actors - Vijay in Tamil and Salman Khan in Hindi. While Prabhu Deva's 'Pokkiri' (2007) propelled Vijay to super stardom, Salman Khan's career was majorly revamped due to the success of 'Wanted' in 2009.
IT raid- After the huge success of 'Dookudu', I-T officials raided the actor's Jubilee Hills home and Film Nagar offices in Hyderabad on Thursday, 8 Decemeber 2011.
The philanthropist - Nothing much about the actor's charity work was revealed until comedian Ali talked about it at a public gathering. He revealed that Mahesh gives away 30 percent of his earnings to charity and it is one reason he is seen in a lot of commercials.
With wife Namrata Shirodkar, Mahesh supports charities like Heal-A-Child Foundation, Basavatarakam Cancer Foundation, MARD and Rainbow Hospitals.
Adopted two villages - The superstar has adopted two villages - Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh and Siddhapuram in Telangana. Burripalem is the native place of Mahesh's father, Krishna.
Most Desirable man - Mahesh Babu was voted the most desirable man in the Times Most Desirable Men 2013 online polls. He was also ranked 31st on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 in 2013.
Never tried to flaunt a toned body - Unlike other Tollywood or Bollywood actors, be it Salman Khan or Allu Arjun and lately NTR Jr, Mahesh Babu has never tried to market a film with a toned body. The only exception was in Nenokkadine where the actor's physique was seen briefly.
Mahesh Babu can't read Telugu - Though his mother tongue is Telugu, the superstar can't read the language. The reason is him being birth and upbringing in Chennai. In an interview he said that he takes it as an advantage since he won't be having pre-conceived modulations.
