Sridevi, was the biggest Superstar India had ever seen, considering that at one point she was, the most sought after actor across India, even surpassing male actors like Anil Kapoor and to some extent, Amitabh Bachchan. (File photo)
The second reason for her to be tagged as the biggest star is the fact in Bollywood, when women were just entertainment tools 'placed' in regular intervals of a film, Sridevi 'acted'. (Express Photo)
She danced, she acted, she blossomed, she owned the silver screen like no one ever did before her. Be it Sadma, Chandni, Kshana Kshanam, Govinda Govinda or even Devaraagam, it was for Sridevi that audiences thronged the theatre halls even if she had co-starred with Bachchan or a Kapoor. 1992 – Filmfare Best Actress Award for Lamhe- Directed by Bollywood's King of Romance, Yash Chopra, 'Lamhe' starred Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in lead roles. The movie was inspired by a 1986 film called 'Anokha Rishta' which in turn was inspired by the Malayalam superhit Kanamarayathu', which in turn, phew, was a take on the 1912 novel, 'Daddy Long-Legs'. Lamhe didn't exactly turn out to be a box-office success but has since then become one of the most remembered films in Yash Chopra, Sridevi as well as Anil Kapoor's careers.
