Tamil Nadu opposition parties stage bandh in support of farmers

Demanding immediate action on the part of state and central governments in resolving the issues of TN's farmers, opposition parties last week decided to observe the shutdown strike on April 25.
The shutdown strike was called by DMK, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, VCK, IUML. Trade unions affiliated to these parties also lent their support. (EPS|Ashwin Prasath)

An all-party meeting held by the DMK on April 16 had  called for the bandh as part of the effort to mount pressure on the State and the Centre to waive farm loans taken from nationalised banks, provide enough succour to the worst-hit farmers and adequate compensation for crop loss without any categorisation.
