The two-day-old BJP government collapsed on Saturday as Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa quit even before the scheduled floor test at 4 pm. With a strength of 104 members, BJP was short of 7 members for the magic number of 111 to win the vote of confidence.

The petition to the Supreme Court by Congress-JD(S) contended that despite presenting the list of 116 MLAs, governor Vala has invited the BJP which has 104 MLAs and has given relatively longer time of 15 days to prove the majority on the floor of the House, alleging that it would promote horse trading of their MLAs.
