Women continue to remain “largely oppressed and exploited”, according to the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE). The commission had observed with great interest the heightened activism in addressing gender equality by multi-sector organisations, the CGE said in a statement. The allegations have set off a ripple effect, empowering people who say they also were victims to come forward with stories of abuse by people in power. Here's a list of people who were thrown into the hall of shame by their abusers.
Hollywood actresses like Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Winslet, among others, have condemned producer Harvey Weinstein amid a growing number of sexual harassment allegations against him. Weinstein, who has been fired from The Weinstein Company, has been accused by multiple women of sexually harassing them over a period of nearly three decades. The 'House of Cards' fame actor Kevin Spacey was alleged of sexual harassment on 2nd November, 2017 by his ex-employee. Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan was accused of multiple rape and sexual misconduct. The Swiss-born professor at Oxford has denied two allegations of rape made by French women, as well as further allegations in Swiss media of sexual misconduct against teenage girls in the 1980s and 1990s.
