For the extraordinary services rendered by them to Henri Becquerel which lead to the discovery of radioactive elements, Polonium and Radium, Marie and Perri Curie was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 1903. The exposure to radioactive elements often weakened them during their research but they persevered relentlessly and made scientific breakthroughs which later helped in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
