Window dressing

Old windows can be made into unique pieces of art for your walls or furniture
Window dressing

There is always a way to repurpose old windows in a tasteful and elegant manner. All you have to do is research your favourite styles and learn the tutorials to create a unique indoor style for you and your family. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Consider using pictures on the panels. You can simply tape  family photographs or prints that you like directly on the glass and keep changing them as often as you like. You can either leave the frame in its old condition for a distressed, shabby chic look or sand it down and give it a fresh splash of varnish. This quick renovation will give the wooden frame a renewed look and glossy finish that will
look good as new.

Old windows also make for unique coffee tables. All you need to do is remove the hinges and add some legs, voila, you’ve got yourself a table. Similarly, you can replace the glass with mirror panels and just hang it on the wall as a mirror.

The window frame is also a great place to start a herb garden. Herbs don’t require a lot of space so using the window frame is perfect for this project. Plus, the greenery will create a fresh natural look. But if you would rather do without the bother of growing plants, you can simply weave faux foliage along the frame that will give your room a natural green appearance. Find some kind of green leafy foliage like grapevine or ivy that could stick to the frame.

Installing a blackboard inside the frame is a creative way to leave notes or draw patterns. Or, for your kids to get creative. If this window is in the kitchen, you could list chores or things to do. Not only is it a neater list, but it also decorates the wall.

Lastly, you could create a pot rack out of the window frame. Glue some hooks onto the wood and let it dry. After it is completely dry, you can start saving space in your drawers by hanging up those pots. If you want to change the colour of the frame, make sure you paint it before you stick the hooks.
