Neither beige nor blush, now sage is the new neutral
Sagely advice

Brace yourself, white and beige, there’s a new neutral in town, and it’s called sage. According to the Pinterest 100 list, which is the website’s prediction of trends that are going to be huge in 2018 based on what people are pinning, sage is all set to have a serious moment.

There’s been a 170 per cent increase in saves for sage decor—and it’s easy to see why. This greyish green hue is a soft, muted colour that’s easy to decorate with, but doesn’t veer into boring or predictable territory, hence it’s being dubbed a new neutral.

Not only is it a soothing, earthy shade but it also pairs well with many different home decor styles. And from dark wood to light wooden furniture, this hue goes well with both. Therefore, whether you gravitate towards shabby chic or classic or contemporary, this “new neutral” has a place in your home.

While sage can range in warmth and lightness, it’s frequently used by decorators as a nature-inspired neutral, dressing walls in a living or dining room, a soothing bedroom or even cabinets in a breezy kitchen. It’s also an unexpected alternative to muted greys, with a similar versatility. Not just walls, even curtains, upholstery and bed linen are becoming increasingly popular in this shade as they set off contrasting hues like pink, coral and red to perfection.

The 2018 version of sage green is an update on the olive and seafoam green trends of the past. Just remember that to achieve this look, you’ll need to choose a muted green that’s infused with blue and grey tones.
