A tribute to Kashmir’s beauty and its artists

The woven booti and the jacquard jaal weave both draw their inspiration from the creative traditions of Kashmir.

The beauty of Kashmir is not unknown to us. Yumi’s Sukhran Collection is inspired by the colours, patterns and the artisanal history of Kashmir. The collection embodies the Mughal and Persian sentiment across the flower, leaf and architectural patterns.

The woven booti and the jacquard jaal weave both draw their inspiration from the creative traditions of Kashmir. It is interesting to see how a booti can be translated on the gossamer cotton silk sari, in a special way using the Jamdani technique.

Delicately crafted with naturally-dyed, hand-spun and hand-woven fibres, the silhouettes include saris, dupattas, stoles and cropped blouses. The collection varies across fine counts of mulmul, linen, khadi, silk and cotton silk. The playful yet understated use of zari along with the natural fibres adds a great dimension to these pieces.

The colours incorporated in the collection are inspired from the beautiful flowers and apricot trees of the Nubra Valley, Ladakh. Soft colours like kora (ecru) and khubani (peach) projects a gorgeous setting against the rocky terrain in various shades of grey. Availability : Epiphany at The Lodhi Hotel New Delhi.
