HYDERABAD: If we have ever sneaked into a coffee lover’s diary, you are sure to find these lines. “I wouldn’t wake up without the taste of you. I wouldn’t have made it through, had it not been for you. You are my farishta in barista.”... :You always kick in before reality does”. “A morning without caffeine is a sight unseen”. “I would choose four cups of you, over any cuisine!” and such other peans to coffee.

Keeping in mind the craze for coffee in the city, Hyderabad Marriott Hotel recently celebrated ‘Mad over Mocha,’ a handcrafted coffee desserts festival that is sure to take caffeine love to another level.

Pastry Chef Rathish Unni Nair displayed his art work in an alluring way at the Hyderabad Baking Company confusing the foodies, if they have to eat first or Instagram the desserts.

The pastry that steals the thunder is definitely ‘Kahlua infused dark chocolate terrine,’ which was a mascarpone cheese layered with espresso soaked finger biscuit pastry. Next on the platter was Coorg coffee, an orange peel infused choux bun pastry filled with candied orange and coffee flavored ganache. A rare combo of orange and coffee tickled the tastebuds and evoked some happy moods.

Milk chocolate and espresso slice, a dark devil sponge soaked with espresso and layered with coffee ganache seemed like a regular but with a new taste.
I

t was the chef’s imagination and skill which brought red wine and coffee together enriched the taste of the mousse. Coffee, star anise and red wine petite gateau, which had the white chocolate mousse with brownie topped with red wine jelly stood out as the showstopper.

Coffee toffee slice had almond sponge and toffee flavoured buttercream. The coffee flavour overshadowed the almond and toffee taste, but for good.

The chef’s recommendation was Papparoti, a Mexican coffee flavored bun filled with coffee cream stuffed in between the bun. Pralines like coffee crunch praline, hazelnut latte praline, caramel coffee praline, candied orange and coffee toffee pralines were the most consumed and talked about.

How can the festival end without frappes? An array of these cold coffee slushies were served. Among these eggnog coffee and peppermint coffee managed to get some space in the heart. Caffeine fans will surely have the coffee taste lingering on their taste buds for a long time to come.
