KOCHI: New recipes and kitchen tips: Reshmi Abhilash, a food vlogger, has got it covered. And now, Reshmi’s YouTube channel, Reshmi’s World of Cooking,  is becoming a talk of the town among food lovers who are on the lookout for creative recipes. Her menu ranges from the traditional chakka varattiyathu, to pan-Indian dishes like the samosa and masala egg fried rice and more innovative items like carrot laddu and mango cupcake.

The YouTube channel has hundreds of recipes and a good fan following, in subscriber-terms. Hearing someone say, “This is really tasty” was a huge motivator for her to keep spending time in the kitchen when she was learning to cook.

Reshmi’s World of Cooking has been featured on many online food and cooking platforms. She also offers live cooking sessions on Facebook and YouTube so ‘followers’ can clear doubts in real time during the sessions.

Reshmi says, “My love for cooking started when I was very young, helping my mother in the kitchen and watching her cook with a lot of love. My passion grew when I started to watch cooking shows. Basically I am an eggetarian, but my husband loves eating non-vegetarian food, so I learned to cook this. This led me to try out and innovate new recipes. I got a chance to learn more quality cooking. Some of the finest authentic recipes are from my mother-in-law who was also a great cook.”

This food vlogger started out by attempting each recipe and taking a picture of it. When she had created a pretty good collection of tried recipes with pictures, the idea of vlogging struck her. She was also prompted by her husband and sister who encouraged her to take forward her passion. Her food blog started on a small scale, as a way to help her close ones and friends with recipes. “I then realised that more and more people are taking interest in my recipes and the blog was gaining popularity,” says Reshmi.

Then she graduated to the YouTube channel. She says, “Cooking gives me an opportunity to nurture my family and friends. To express my love and take care of them. We have a house in Kollam where we spend weekends. I prepare new recipe videos and my husband edits them.”

Reshmi, who hails from Alappuzha, works as HR admin at Green Orchid Software Solutions Pvt Ltd, Thejeswini at Technopark. The vlogger is trying to do an English version of her food videos and is also planning to compile a cookbook.
