Italy’s richness hits Bengaluru’s business class

BENGALURU: Bringing the culture all the way from Italy, Novotel Bengaluru Techpark attempts to bring to the table some classic Mediterranean dishes every Wednesday with the Italiano Wednesdays menu. While most of its customers arrive at the hotel for business purposes, serving with a variety of cuisines is must.

The buffet served us both vegetarian and meat versions of each dish. We started off with bruschetta as appetisers. The Chicken Liver Pate with Fig and Salad Cress had an appealing presentation but did not hit the right note, flavour-wise.

However, the Veg Roasted Mushroom Bruschetta turned out to be much better compared to its non-veg counterpart. With just cheese, salad cress and mushroom, the veg dish was delicious and a perfect appetiser to start off with.

No appetiser is complete without a soup and we happened to have one of the best Italian soups in town. The Bean and Pasta Soup with its perfect quantity made us crave more. With basil, carrots, red pepper and onions, this dish definitely served its purpose.

Another appetiser was the Polpettine di Tonno e Salsa Pomodoro – Tuna balls in a spicy tomato sauce. Though the tuna was a bit dry, the sauce helped balance it out. Gnocchi with Spinach and Gorgonzol was the most disappointing pick from the menu. The dish was too cheesy. A personal seafood favourite, Calamari fritti with aioli seemed a bit too crispy as well.

Heading to the main course, Risotto Milanese with Lamb Shank osso Bucco was made the classic Italian way, without tomatoes, unlike several other food outlets. The carrots and garlic had an appealing aroma and did justice.

The Lamb Chops with Sweet Peppers was a fairly good dish to end the meal with. The meat was tender inside but a bit hard on the outside. But on the whole, the dish deserves a thumbs up.
Where the food lacks in flavour, it makes up in presentation.

Cost for two (approx.): Rs 2,500
