BENGALURU: My name is Lana, 17, a resident of Bengaluru. A few weeks back I noticed a faint black mark on my front tooth and this morning I observed black patches have spread to my other incisors. I am very worried that this might spread even further.

Dear Lana, generally black spots relate to stains on the teeth which could be caused by various factors including drinking water and tooth decay. I would recommend you visit a dentist  as soon as possible and get it checked, as if it is a decay, the dentist can clean and fill it up, so as to avoid it spreading.

I am 34 years old and I have always suffered from yellow teeth.  I brush twice a day since the time I was a child.  How to combat yellowness of my teeth? I also heard yellow teeth means stronger teeth. Is it true?

Thanks for asking this question. Yellow teeth have nothing to do with the strength of your teeth. There are many conditions that cause yellowish stains of your teeth. The most common reason for yellow teeth is the erosion of the enamel. The enamel is the top most layer of our tooth and when it erodes, it becomes transparent, exposing the second layer of the tooth called the dentine, which is yellow. This can be a simple cause for your teeth to be yellow. Other reasons could be, fluorosis, stains, medications consumed by mothers during pregnancy. It’s better you visit a dentist and get it evaluated.
