Bengaluru-based Vasantha Vaikunth’s presence and aura bring a sense of peace and quiet to those around. And both wellness and dance hold equal significance in her life. But she believes that life is your creation. “You need to preserve its beauty, learn the art of happiness, hold hands of fellow beings and learn to walk the path of your goal,” says Vasantha, who has been helping young generation get out of the techno-infested, fast-paced life and live a happy life.

Started three years ago, her wellness website, lifenliving.org, aims at answering queries related to parenting, midlife crisis, retirement phobia, education and employment, success synonymous with material acquisition, loneliness in the world of social media and many more.

Vasantha, who has conducted 500 counselling sessions and more than 50 talk shows for corporate and colleges in the past two years, was given the Woman of Excellence award for her contribution to arts and healing by the Women’s Economic Forum in Delhi in May this year.

“As part of the Life n Living, we conduct workshops and interviews for university students to understand their perspective on the changing environment and enable them to form an interactive platform on this website,” says the Bharatanatyam dancer, who has 200 shows to her credit. Her wellness website was also judged as the best online site by Google this year.

Her mantra is ‘Life in your hands’. “If you ever find yourself on crossroads, open your smartphone and interact with us; you will find an answer,” says Vasantha, who has been studying Indian scriptures for the past 30 years, and believes in practical application of learnings from them in the present world. “Misuse of technology has taken the world to disintegrated thinking and lack of focus amongst the youth, and there is a need for reinforcement of positive thinking in mankind. And our time-tested scriptures hold the gear to our changing speed.”

In her early 60s, Vasantha believes that after a long journey as a dancer, it’s time to give back to the society. “Changing lives, particularly the present revolution on relationships, sexuality and corporate functioning have baffled all sections of society. And I am there to help them,” says Vasantha, who belongs to Tamil Nadu.

During sessions, she deals with different people according to their temperamant. “Listening to them carefully, and putting their confidence back is my job. Most of them are confused on value system and they want to escape from situations. Responsibility with freedom of choice and accountability of their actions are the keys to a better living,” she says.

People don’t have the time to attend ‘satsangs’ or spend time on self-healing because life is too fast-paced, she says. “But we have made inspirational programmes, interactive sessions, and life skill programmes available on your smartphones,” says Vasantha, who started off as a columnist in a newspaper in Oman. Her column ‘Life and Living’ became so popular that she decided to help more people through it.

“Our ancient scriptures such as Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, Puranas, and Upanishads do not come under time limitation. They are eternal and the lessons we can learn from them are valid even in present times,” says Vasantha, who believes the world is more in need of compassion than charity.
