Simple ways to maintain storehouse of energy

However, the nature of a human being does not permit it. Many constant thoughts, feelings, emotions, logical analysis and use of the mind for petty squabbles, anger, jealousy, desire, hatred, confusion, fear, selfish purposes and greed lead to discharge, dissipation and wastage of vast personal power resource even without our knowledge. 

The Yoga Shastras teach us many ways to control unnecessary wastage of energy. The first step is to control speech. Even observing little principles such as speaking sweetly, speaking softly, words of kindness and words that uplift and help others is a great sadhana to conserve energy. Observing silence for an hour or two daily, or throughout the day once a week quietens the nerves and generates instant calmness within the mind. 

The series of experiences that happen in our lives and the resultant joys and sorrows and a mixture of both are not accidental. They are made to order by our own thought patterns, words and actions prior to the experience. If I need to experience joy and happiness throughout my life, I am required to put in as much hard work to make it successful. 

The hard work is actually not any physical labour. It is a mental process. In this effort, I can begin by constantly watching my thoughts. Thoughts travel in two streams and there is nothing in between. One is positive and the other is negative. When I am able to use a thought for some constructive and productive purpose and achieve great goals in life, it becomes a positive thought. When the thought process takes me nowhere and just keeps me complaining about some person, situation or object all the time—then it is negative. 

Negative thoughts cannot be removed just like a weed from our special garden that has to be first identified and then watched for a period of time. The weed is then gently supplanted with the positive thought. Lo and behold—every good thing we wish to achieve turns out a success. 

These are time-tested methods that help change our behavioural thinking patterns. There are numerous examples that abound if you really wish to hear success stories from these inspired people who have discovered the process of making it work.
