Unite the Mind with Peace

The Atma Bodha praises the man of realisation.

The Atma Bodha praises the man of realisation. He has crossed over a mighty ocean called delusion. The reason for this lies in the subtle cause in the personality called the three qualities: Sattvam or brilliance, Rajas or dynamism and movement, and Tamas or delusion, inertia and a lack of interest in taking the right step. Delusion means understanding the body, mind and intellect as the ‘I’.

With constant practice over a long period of time, stretching a life or many lifetimes, the meditator attains a state of mind which is united with peace. In that state of integration of mind, there are no turbulent or reactionary thoughts caused by spouting desires. Unaffected by the qualities of inertia, dynamism and brilliance, which keeps throwing and overpowering each other like waves in the ocean, the man of wisdom is not harassed by thoughts.

This experience is not a logic that can be proved by a scientific experiment. It springs from the intuitive wisdom of the master. The Patanjali Yoga Sutra points out this as ‘Yoga Siddhi’—Pratibhadva Sarvam. Everything that is sought to be known gets revealed if this light of intuition is discovered.

This ‘I’ or consciousness is covered by volatile vibrations of qualities, the deciding intellect, the rapid-fire mind that chases objects in the world outside through the sense organs and the inert body. Through the power of understanding, all these layers are transcended and the Self is reached with absolute ease.

The shining of this knowledge is not like some bright garish light. It shines so gently without thrusting its force outside, hurting none but pleasing all like the cool rays of the moon. It expresses like the patterns of light and shade spewed out by a well-lit mud lampshade with many well carved-out holes.

What is the result of this exercise? The individual master shines bright, but there is no aggression in the personality. There is no hankering after name, fame and power because the source of all joy which is the life within called the Self or I, has been realised. Such a person glows with the light of understanding. This state is brought about not without any effort. A lot of killing of demons of the inner personality is involved. These creatures masquerade in the name of attachment, hatred, desire, greed, jealousy and delusion.
