BMW continues to expand its portfolio in India and strengthen its position in the luxury car segment. A perfect example was the launch of the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. The first four-door coupe from BMW unites perfect aesthetics with luxurious comfort and a supreme sporty character. Ammar Alvi has more.

The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, the first four-door coupe in the history of BMW, was launched recently along with a preview of ‘Visions of Beauty’, an exclusive collection designed by Manish Malhotra, ace Indian fashion designer. The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will be available as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) unit and the deliveries will start from November.

The design of the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe was inspired by the idea of an object cutting straight through liquid medium and imagining the lines and forms that would be created in the process. The sporty temperament of the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is revealed in its elongated profile, the long wheelbase and the extended bonnet. The third brake light incorporated into the full width of the rear glass underlines the individuality as well as the power of the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe.

According to Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India, “BMW has reinvented the coupe, creating a four-door car with irresistible dynamics and aesthetics that reawaken the joy of driving every day. The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe has achieved an unusual synergy between pioneering design, uncompromising sportiness and exclusive elegance which is distinguished by its spaciousness and functionality.”

The interior of the all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe leaves no sense unstimulated and creates a private space that invites indulgence. Luxurious sophistication and emotional sportiness are blended effortlessly by the use of premium materials and first-class workmanship. The versatility and large dimensions offer the rear passengers optimum space and comfort. The electric glass-roof adds to the feeling of spaciousness. The rear seats can be folded down in 60:40 configuration to increase the luggage capacity.

Sporty performance and great efficiency characterise the new BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engine in the all-new BMW 640d Gran Coupe. The car accelerates to 100 km/hr in 5.4 seconds with the ability to achieve a top speed of 250 km/hr. The new eight-speed sport automatic transmission with Cruise Control performs smooth gear shifts. At any time, in any gear, the transmission collaborates perfectly with the engine, enabling it to develop its full power and efficiency. The Sports Leather Steering of the all-new 640d Gran Coupe also features Shift Paddles for facilitating more convenient manual gear shifts.

The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is available in a diesel variant (The BMW 640d Gran Coupe) at an all-India ex-showroom price of `86,40,000. A perfect four door Gran Coupe, the BMW 640d will be a niche model in India but definitely worth a buy.
