Shah’s startup offers industry’s first ‘inbound marketing system for small businesses’ which lets them attract and interact with their customers on social media.

When you are a small business with limited budgets, engaging with your customers on social media—a very important part of doing business today—becomes very difficult. That is where Dharmesh Shah comes in. Shah is the co-founder and CTO of HubSpot, a venture-backed software startup that offers industry’s first ‘inbound marketing system for small businesses’ which lets them attract and interact with their customers on social media. He has a BS in Computer Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and an MS in Management of Technology from the prestigious Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Shah, who describes himself as a career startup guy, started his career as a software developer.

In 1994, he founded and acted as the CEO of Pyramid Digital Solutions which made enterprise software for financial services sector. After selling the company to $11-billion SunGard Business Systems in 2005, Shah moved on to found his second company HubSpot which till date has raised over $100 million in venture capital and which boasts of having over 9,000 small businesses as customers. Shah, very active on social networks like Twitter, is also the co-author of the highly successful book Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media and Blog which has been translated into eight languages. He also acts as an angel investor for over 40 startups and writes for OnStartups.com.
