Speedsters show the future in Geneva

From concept cars, sports cars to hybrids, the 83rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show, open from March 7 to 17, promises enough action that would still remain spoken for the rest of the year picks up the best of the best from the show.

Audi E-Tron

Audi is working intensively to electrify the drivetrain using plug-in hybrid technology. The brand with the four rings showed the Audi A3 e-tron at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. With 204 hp of system power and 350 Nm of system torque, sporty performance is guaranteed. The Audi A3 e-tron is a true Audi. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 222 km/h. According to the ECE standard for plug-in hybrid automobiles, the five-door model consumes on average just 1.5 litres of fuel per 100 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 35 grams per km. In electric mode, the Audi A3 e-tron reaches a top speed of 130 km/h and has a maximum range of 50 km.

Bentley Flying Spur 2013

Bentley’s most powerful four-door model made its global debut at the show. Its styling team has developed an athletic design for the new Flying Spur that combines traditional Bentley styling cues with a sporting stance and contemporary details. Sharp feature lines complement muscular rear haunches, while LED day-time running lights, dipped headlights and taillights characterise the front and rear profiles. Powering the new Flying Spur is Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre, twin turbo W12 engine, coupled with a ZF eight-speed transmission. Developing 625 PS and 800 Nm of torque, the new Flying Spur features more power than any other Bentley four-door in history. A 14 per cent improvement in the power-to-weight ratio over the outgoing model delivers a breath-taking 0-100 kmph time of 4.3 seconds and a top-speed of 322 km/h.

Rolls Royce Wrath

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly presented Wraith, the most powerful and dynamic Rolls-Royce in history. At its heart lie hallmark Rolls-Royce attributes of luxury, refinement and hand-craftsmanship, but the new model from the world’s pinnacle super-luxury marque also presents a unique character defined by power, style and drama. With just a hint of the noir. Some of the features include a 624 bhp, 800 Nm from 1,500 rpm engine that races the car from 0-100 kmph in 4.4 seconds, debut of Satellite Aided Transmission—a technology that uses GPS mapping data to ensure the correct gear is always pre-selected for the road terrain ahead, voice activated connectivity augments effortlessness—the ‘on-board valet’ and Canadel Panelling sweeps through a sumptuous, contemporary and yacht-like interior cabin.

Porche 911 Gt3

The new Porsche 911 GT3 made its premiere at the International Geneva Motor Show. The completely-redeveloped fifth generation of the 911 GT3 occupies the top position among Porsche sports cars with naturally-aspirated engines. With an impressive lap time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife of under 7:30 minutes, the 2014 911 GT3 benefits from a new engine, transmission, body and chassis. The car now sprints from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds on its way to a top track speed of 195 mph. Mclaren P1

McLaren Automotive launched the latest edition of the phenomenal McLaren P1at at the show. The race-inspired Instant Power Assist System gives the McLaren P1 astonishing performance. Zero to 100km/h will take less than three seconds, zero to 200 km/h under seven seconds, and zero to 300 km/h will be achieved in no more than 17 seconds. Putting that into perspective, that’s five seconds faster than the legendary McLaren F1 road car. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h. McLaren has closely monitored demand so as to maintain exclusivity, and announced a production number of just 375 units. McLaren has also announced that the car will cost from £866,000 on road with a specification that fully equips the car for both road and track use.

Lamborghini Veneno

Not far from the growling LaFerrari, other Italian sports car maker Lamborghini presented an extremely exclusive model at the Geneva Motor Show. Only three unique units of the Lamborghini Veneno will be built and sold. Its design is consistently focused on optimum aerodynamics and cornering stability, giving the Veneno the real dynamic experience of a racing prototype, yet it is fully homologated for the road. With a maximum output of 552 kW / 750 hp, the Lamborghini Veneno accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and the top speed for this street-legal racing car stands at 355 km/h. It is priced at €3 million plus tax—and all three units have already been sold to customers. The Veneno features a twelve-cylinder power unit with a displacement of 6.5 litres, an extremely fast-shifting seven-speed ISR transmission with five driving modes.

Ferrari Laferrari

The centre of attraction and the best launch of 2013 Geneva Motor Show was undoubtedly LaFerrari. The Prancing Horse’s eagerly-anticipated limited-series special, of which just 499 will be built, made its world debut at the show. Of particular significance in this context is the introduction of the hybrid system which, making full use of the Scuderia Ferrari’s F1 KERS know-how, has resulted in a solution that exalts Ferrari’s fundamental values—performance and driving thrills. The hybrid technology used, known as HY-KERS, represents the perfect combination of maximum performance and lower emissions. The LaFerrari is the first car in Ferrari history to be powered by the HY-KERS system. The ICE represents the pinnacle of engine development and research, with a 6262 cc V12 that punches out 800 CV and revs to a maximum of 9,250 rpm, a record for an engine of this displacement. The engine is coupled with a 120 Kw (163 CV) electric motor, giving it a combined power output of 963 CV. The car’s performance levels are top class: 0-100 km/h in less than three seconds and 0-200 km/h in under seven seconds. LaFerrari is thus the fastest road car in Maranello’s long history.

Aston Martin Rapide Jet Concept

A dream sports car to celebrate a double historical anniversary. At the Geneva show, Bertone celebrates the Aston Martin centenary and 60 years of cooperation between the Italian company and the prestigious English brand presenting an interpretation of the Aston Martin Rapide. The Rapide Jet Concept is a luxurious and refined shooting-brake realised as a one-off vehicle, keeping unchanged the mechanical engineering of the original model (6 litres V 12 cylinders engine 476 HP), combining a stretched and muscular car body and a functional use of the hatchback. The Rapide Bertone was commissioned by an Aston Martin collector who took part in person in the whole development of the project, from the first phases of the style research to the manufacture of the car in the workshop, choosing the bodywork paint as well as the leather trimming and the cockpit upholstery.
