In a fast-changing post-PC world that is going mobile, Microsoft, the leader of immobile desktop computing, is struggling to stay relevant. To be in the reckoning with the likes of Apple and Google and to make Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 market leaders, Microsoft is mainly depending on two services. Its Outlook mail service and the SkyDrive, the cloud storage service. And the man in charge of these very important products is Dharmesh Mehta, the senior director in charge of product management and product marketing. Mehta has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Science and Engineering, another Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science (Finance) and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After working for a few years in Bain & Company as an associate consultant focused on organisational efficiency and brand strategies, Mehta quit to go to the Harvard Business School to get an MBA. After his MBA, he joined Microsoft as the group manager of Corporate Strategy Group and was in charge of some of the most high profile corporate strategy projects. Later put in charge of product and marketing functions, he worked on important products like Windows Live Essentials and Messenger. Since 2010 he has been in charge of SkyDrive and has played a great part in revamping Hotmail as Outlook.com. He was also the founder and CEO of ADIS Corporation, which made web-based software for schools.
