Delhi-NCR Metro (Free, iOS/Android/Windows Phone 8)

Using the Delhi-NCR Metro app on your smartphone liberates you from the woes of using a big city’s metro system. Available for all leading smartphone platforms, the Delhi-NCR Metro app is well designed and is easy to use irrespective of the platform. Like any good public transit app, it offers an interactive route map that lets you calculate the fare and time between any two stations just by tapping them. Along with a normal route search you can also search using your current location or using any address on the provided map. You can also get complete information about any metro station like the availability of washrooms, parking, exit gates, and first and last train timings.

Delhi Police Mobile Feedback (Free, iOS/Android/Windows Phone 8)

Delhi Police Mobile Feedback, available on all three major smartphone platforms, is the organisation’s attempt to row back using the ‘Citizen First’ initiative. Using the app you can give feedback and report crimes either using just text or even images to your nearest station house officer (SHO). The easy-to-use app gives you a number of categories—drinking and nuisance in a public place to encroachments and information about wanted crimes, or even the option to report on anything that you deem necessary. Using the built-in GPS, the complaint gives your SHO a fairly good idea of your location. Delhi Police promises that the ‘reported feedback will be actioned upon’.

Uber (Free, iOS/Android)

The world’s most famous and fastest growing driver-for-hire service Uber is now in India. Using the app you can get picked up within minutes of requesting a ride. You get to compare different vehicles and fare quotes, and can pay using your credit card through the app. Using the inbuilt GPS you can easily set up your pickup location and can track the position of your car using your smartphone’s map thereby avoiding long waits, and dodgy taxi drivers. On the other hand Uber’s CEO is a big fan of Ayn Rand which means you get what is called ‘Surge Pricing’ which effectively means that the prices skyrocket during the busiest periods.

New Delhi Airport (Free, iOS/Android)

If you are tired of the congestion on the Delhi Metro, the inaction of the Delhi Police, and the Randesque indifference of your taxi driver, you need to get out of the city and for that you have a world-class airport with a world-class app. Using the app you can get the latest information about the airport, live status of all the flights and can even book airport facilities like lounges, showers and the hotel. You can even browse through the list of different brands offering their wares and the latest offers they have for travellers.
