Walter De Silva serves as Chief Designer of the Volkswagen AG since 2007. He is responsible for the design lines of all Volkswagen’s passenger car brands. Before this, he served as head of design at Audi brand group. De Silva was supposed to become an architect, just like his father. As a logical consequence, he gave up studying architecture at the age of 21 to join Fiat as a junior designer.
In 1999, he was put in charge of the SEAT Design Centre. De Silva was given the responsibility for the entire Audi brand group’s design requirements in March 2002. De Silva has won numerous awards for his models.
Under his supervision, Audi launched several new models and with Volkswagen, he is responsible for all the updates. Recently at the celebration of Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, De Silva unveiled Volkswagen Group’s homage celebrating the House of the Raging Bull’s half century in the name of Egoista. An emotional De Silva said, “I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself. I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head.”
