Tata Motors has raised the bar and taken the competition to a new level by launching the Vista Quadrajet 90, its popular hatchback. Powered by the Fiat’s 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that churns out 89PS of power, the Vista Quadrajet 90 is now powerful, agile and a formidable hatch that could give some of its competitors a tough time. Ammar Alvi gets more on this.

Tata Motors has been getting extremely aggressive in the domestic market by continuously upgrading all its existing models and taking the feedback from its customers. The Vista which was launched a notch higher than Indica wasn’t really a winner for Tata but it has done quite well if not been at the top of the hatch segment. The company now hopes to challenge its competitors with the all new Vista Quadrajet 90. Though Tata Motors has parted ways with its partner Fiat in India, it has taken few cues from the Punto 90HP edition by launching the Vista in two variants—VX, and ZX trim levels. The VX comes loaded with power windows, a stereo, front and rear fog lamps, rear wash wipe and defogger, ABS and EBD while the top-of-the-line ZX variant adds dual airbags at the front and alloy wheels to the list. There is also one change, the Vista 90 comes with interior styling similar to the Manza saloon’s. This means the instrument console now moves behind the steering wheel.

With more power and torque, the new Vista’s performance is bound to improve. The Multijet engine in the 90 PS set of tune offers very good performance. The Vista should be quicker to 100 km/hr too, although top speed is unlikely to be altered.

Price is something where the Tata Vista Quadrajet 90 comes out as a winner. The company has aggressively priced the VX and ZX at Rs 6.03 lakh and Rs 6.63 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively. The Tata Vista range is available with a choice of four engines—two petrol and two diesel. Prices range from Rs 4.14 lakh to Rs 6.63 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
