Parliament Monsoon Session Day 5 HIGHLIGHTS: BJP failed in its promises to not just Andhra but other states too, says opposition

The fifth sitting of the Monsoon session of the Parliament began today amidst the political furore over the recent development in the Alwar lynching case.

The Lok Sabha, after discussion, today passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill.

Meanwhile, ruckus was seen in the Rajya Sabha as the opposition hit out at the Modi government for not keeping its promises to not just Andhra Pradesh but many other states as well.

Both the houses of the Indian Parliament reconvened on Monday after a heated No-confidence debate raised by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs demanding special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

"BJP is not keeping its promises to states including Tamil Nadu. There should be no discrimination in providing assistance to any states," says D Raja, Rajya Sabha MP.

"NDA means only BJP now. BJP has used TDP for four years and has now ditched them," says TK Rangarajan, CPI (M) Rajya Sabha MP.

"BJP can make promises very well. BJP can do marketing also very well. But, when it comes to implementation, they have failed in many states. That is why even Shiv Sena is unhappy!"

"The Shiv Sena, which has supported BJP for 29 years, is against the BJP on the Andhra Pradesh Special Status issue. Doesn't that speak for itself?" asks West Bengal AITC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O' Brien.

"The government of Tamil Nadu supports the Prevention of Corruption bill. The state government has already passed the bill to form Lokayukt to investigate corruption allegations against civil servants," says AIADMK Lok Sabha MP Selvakumarachinnayan.

"Corruption is spreading like cancer thanks to Congress. "People of Andhra Pradesh deserve the sympathy of the whole nation because they have not even been given time to settle down and grow throughout its political history."
