Thousands of Ayyappa devotees thronged the Sabarimala temple, which was reopened at 5 pm on Friday evening for the two-month-long Madala-Makkarvilakku puja on Saturday.

Earlier, the Travancore Devaswom Board held an emergency meeting and decided to move a plea in the Supreme Court to seek more time to implement its verdict allowing women of all ages to enter the temple.

While announcing this, Board chief A Padmakumar urged the people to cooperate with the temple management body for a smooth and peaceful management of the pilgrim season.

Meanwhile, Kerala cops said they can only provide security to activist Trupti Desai, but she must arrange her own mode of transport and accommodation.

Trupti Desai, who reached the Cochin International Airport in the early hours of Friday to visit the Sabarimala temple was not able to come out of the domestic terminal, following protest by devotees opposing the entry of menstrual women into the Lord Ayyappa temple.

Police have registered a case suo motu against 200 people who staged a protest at the Cochin airport to block the exit of Trupti Desai.

The all-party meeting on Thursday failed to end the deadlock over the Supreme Court verdict that lifted the ban on entry for women of menstrual age to Sabarimala temple on the eve of its opening for the two-month-long annual pilgrim season.
