Major face-offs 2013

August: Fifty-odd Chinese troopers transgress about 30 km inside Indian territory in Chaglagam sector of Anjaw district in Arunachal Pradesh, camp for a week and return. India, to prevent escalation of hostilities, does nothing except to send a patrol team there.

July: Two Chinese military helicopters carry out aerial surveillance close to the LAC in Ladakh’s Chumar sector, testing India’s air defence mechanism.

July: Chinese troopers cross the LAC into the Indian side at Chumar. They damage surveillance equipment and carry away a camera. It is returned after two flag meetings of local commanders.

May: Chinese troopers have a fresh tiff with Indian soldiers, this time stopping their patrols at the Siri Jap area of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, also known as Finger-VIII, where China has built a road 5 km inside Indian side of LAC. Leh-based 14 Corps headquarters stops all patrols in the area.

April-May: Over 30 Chinese army personnel enter Indian side of LAC, 19 km deep, pitch tents for three weeks at Raki Nallah on Debsang bulge near Daulat Beg Oldi in northern Ladakh region. Indian troopers pitch their own tents nearby as a counter, but no offensive action taken to dislodge the Chinese. Diplomatic efforts and military flag meetings resolve the issue and the Chinese return home.
