Bring home the summer

The cold is gone, taking the need for thick underlays and deep, dark coloured fabrics with it.
Bring home the summer

Bring Things to a Head

The fastest way to give your bedroom a new look is by getting in a new headboard. For an eclectic mood, create a canopy-style headboard out of reclaimed wood and have it run across the ceiling (see far above). Alternatively, get yourself an upholstered headboard by covering the old one with patterned fabric. Go as high or low as you like.

Mismatch the Table & Chairs

Like playing with colour and texture? Switch around your favourite furniture pieces for the most cost-effective redo. Start by mismatching your dining chairs to bring new character to the space.

You can go one of two ways: put in chairs in the same style but in different hues, or mix up the styles but reign in the palette.

Move the Flowers from the Vase to the Walls

As every home-maker knows, it’s difficult to keep fresh flowers from wilting in the vase when the fan overhead is whirring away at full-speed.

Those who don’t like 24x7 air-conditioning or artificial flowers may like to spend the warm months admiring the blooms on their drapes and blinds. Let your Indian summer be a mass of roses, hibiscus, sunflowers and lilies—inside, outside.

Do it with Mirrors

By lending an immediate sense of height and space, nothing expands or brightens interiors faster than a mirror or two. But go about it differently this season: replace a wooden door in the living room with a mirrored door.

Or create a unique artwork by piecing together 50-plus mirrors of differing sizes. Or, to make it even more interestingly, go the Meurice way.

The famous Paris hotel has created the most stunning corner in its lobby by filling a glass case with white pillar candles, over which hang a dozen hand mirrors. Call it a summer fireplace.
