Counsel for  one of the accused in the December 16 gangrape on Tuesday claimed before a special court here that the witness on his behalf did not turn up as he was afraid of being tortured by Delhi Police officials.

Vinay Sharma’s counsel told Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna that a man who agreed to depose as a defence witness in the case was allegedly threatened by police officials against appearing and recording his testimony and so he could not come.

The counsel sought a final opportunity to explain to the witness that he should not be afraid of appearing in a court of law.
