The Embassies and Intelligence agencies of neighbouring countries are acting as conduits to fund terror outfits operating in the country,Union Minister of State for Home Affairs R P N Singh told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Singh said as per the intelligence inputs, terrorists and separatists are getting funds through the hawala route and inward remittances.
He said counterfeit Indian currency notes were also a source of terror funding in the country, with the active support of the foreign intelligence agency of a neighbouring country.
Based on the inputs received from the Central and state law enforcement agencies, a total of 218 FIRs had been registered in the last seven years. The MoS said in 65 cases, chargesheets had been filed by the agencies. “These include the 10 terror funding cases being investigated by the NIA,” he said.
The NIA is also looking into the hawala transfers to terrorist organisations like the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Hizb-ul- Mujahideen (HM) from Pakistan and West Asia to promote terror activities in India.
Headed by Syed Salahuddin, HM has an active presence in Bandipora-Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama, Chenab Division of Doda district, Gool in Udhampur and Pir Panjal Division of Rajouri and Poonch districts of J&K.
The terror outfit is being regularly and systematically funded from across the border to carry out terrorist activities in India. And the NIA is probing the terror funding, routed through the Jammu & Kashmir Affectees Relief Trusts (JKART)charity organisation, to the HM.
LeT, meanwhile, runs its terror activities through the Jamat-ud-dawa (JuD) a Pakistan-based front charity organisation.
JuD reportedly received state funding from Pakistan’s Punjab government and it is running recruitment and training centres in Muzaffarabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Multan and Quetta.
