Monsoon remained active over most parts of North India today, with rains claiming five lives in Uttar Pradesh and leaving the national capital Delhi drenched for the third consecutive day.
While two persons died in Sonebhadra, one each was killed in Ballia, Varanasi and Hardoi districts of Uttar Pradesh, the relief commissioner office said.
With this, the number of deaths in the state this monsoon has gone up to 186, it said.
Rains continued to lash Delhi for the third consecutive day today, again leading to traffic choas at many places in the city.
The rain gauges at Safdurjung MeT station measured 0.6 mm of rainfall from 8:30 AM yesterday to 8:30 AM this morning.
The MeT office said the city will continue to receive rainfall for next couple of days.
Heavy rains lashed Uttarkashi and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand, which is trying to limp back to normalcy after the June's rain fury that left many persons dead.
Uttarkashi received 101 mm of rains, followed by Haldwani in Nainital district, which recorded 100 mm of rainfall, the MeT office said.
However, there was no report of any damage from anywhere across the state due to the rains.
Moderate to heavy showers lashed many places in Rajasthan, where Ajmer and Jaipur recorded the maximum 9 cm of rainfall each, followed by Sarmathur 8 cm, and Bhilwara, Sanganer and Bakani 6 cm each.
Many places in Ajmer, Kota and Udaipur divisions recorded light to moderate showers. Heavy rainfall was reported from isolated places in Jaipur and Jodhpur divisions.
Rainfall also occurred at many places in Himachal Pradesh, where Gohar was wettest place with 75 mm of rainfall.
State capital Shimla received 57.5 mm of rains, followed by Kasol 44 mm, Manali 35 mm, Dharampur 33 mm, Palampur and Kahu 32 mm, Kasauli and Arki 23 mm and Baijnath 15 mm.
Much to the discomfort of people, a hot and sultry weather prevailed in Punjab and Haryana, sending the mercury above normal at many places, even as the region witnessed scattered rains.
Amritsar in Punjab was the hottest place in the region with a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius, the MeT department said.
Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius, and a rainfall of 1.2 mm.
