Legal Fraternity Hails Intern's Blog on Assault

As outrage over Tarun Tejpal’s bail plea heard in a Goa court brought focus on the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace, in Kolkata former justice A K Ganguly too faced the heat with political parties stepping up pressure for his removal from the West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairmanship following a young law intern’s allegations of sexual harassment against him.

The legal fraternity said the young intern’s blog on Ganguly was a “brave move” and it has brought down the walls which no one dared to breach. That was an indication of the changing times which the social media and spaces like internet blog has made possible.

But more than the breaching of the feudal mindset, what has happened is that it has changed the mood and perception on sexual violence - the shame is no more on the victim but on the accused - no matter who, said a prominent SC lawyer.

A three-member apex committee comprising justices R M Lodha, H L Dattu and R P Desai, is hearing the Ganguly case.
