Sanjay Dutt Free Again, Granted Parole

It could not get better than this for Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who would be once again breathing free. This time for 30 days, as he has been granted a one-month parole, on the grounds that his wife Manyata is unwell.

This is second occasion that Sanjay has got out of the prison since he surrendered before the TADA court in May this year, after his conviction  for possession of arms supplied to him by the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast conspirators was upheld by the Supreme Court. It was only a month back in October, that he was let off on a 14-day furlough that was extended by another 14 days. Activists like advocate Abha Singh believe that Sanjay has been getting preferential treatment, because of political connections. His sister Priya Dutt is a Congress MP from Mumbai.

His parole was sanctioned by the Pune divisional commissioner Prakash Deshmukh on the recommendations of Assistant Commissioner of Police,  Bandra. Sanjay has been asked to the local police station, twice a week. However, prison authorities said that they are yet to receive the parole order, which means that the actor would probably be out on Saturday.

Sanjay has served 22 months of his five-year term as an under trial. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment in 2007.
