Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the party would hold 200 public gatherings across the national capital to seek public opinion on whether the party should accept support from other parties to form government in the state.
The AAP said the party would send 25 lakh letters to people seeking their opinion on government formation and a final call on the issue will be taken on Monday.
The party has appealed people to send their answers by SMS. AAP leaders held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the next course of action after the Congress made its stand clear on the 18 issues raised by Kejriwal.
Rubbishing statements made by the Congress and the BJP that the AAP was running away from forming the government, Kejriwal said the AAP has risen against corruption in India and was formed to fight against the oppressive policies of both the parties. The AAP was not formed with an intention to rule, but with an intention to remove corruption, he said.
Kejriwal alleged that the BJP was least bothered about the people of Delhi, and is merely engaging in dirty politics. He said if BJP president Rajnath Singh found it below his dignity to reply to the AAP’s letter seeking support on 18 issues, then he could have got somebody else to reply. After the Congress decided to extend unconditional support to the AAP on December 13, Kejriwal had written letters to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rajnath seeking their parties’ views on 18 issues, including passing of Lokpal Bill, granting full statehood to Delhi, reducing water tariff and auditing of power discoms among others, before moving ahead to form a government.
In its reply, the Congress said 16 of its 18 demands needed just administrative decisions and had nothing to do with Parliament or the Assembly.
