Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade owns 11 properties, including two in Kerala. As per the statement, her father Uttam Khobragade, had transferred two plots measuring 4.9 cents and 6.69 cents of land in Ernakulam district to Devyani’s name on December 20, 2011, valued at Rs 16.35 lakh.
Uttam also gifted a plot measuring 9.805 cents at Cherai in Pallipuram village to his daughter on January 2, 2009, which is valued at Rs 5 lakh.
“We too have heard about it. But we don’t have any details about the location of the land,” said Chinnamma Dharman, Pallippuram panchayat president.
The state unit of Intelligence Bureau had probed this deal for its Pakistan link as the deal was done while she was working at the Indian Embassy in Islamabad.
According to highly placed sources, the officers in the Intelligence Bureau had to face the music for their act as the broker of the deal allegedly threatened them by citing his elite connections, including top bureaucrats in the deal.
Among Devyani’s properties eight are in her home state Maharashtra and one in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. She had purchased only four, while the rest were gifted by her father, a former IAS officer whose links to the Adarsh Flats, in Maharashtra were controversial.
According to her statement submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), as of March 31, 2012, the total value of her properties was estimated at `1.78 crore. However, as per the present market value, her properties may be worth over `6 crore.
It is learnt that her 1,000-sqft apartment in the controversial Adarsh Coop Housing Society (Adarsh CHS) in Mumbai alone is worth about Rs 4 crore.
Devyani stated that she bought the flat for Rs 90 lakh.
The statement of assets assumes significance as the controversy started with the US authorities accusing Devyani of submitting allegedly fake documents to the US State Department.
