PM to Address Press Conference in the New Year

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address a press conference on Friday, his second and possibly the last during UPA-II.

Singh, who is criticised by some for not meeting the media, has decided to address the press conference at a time when his government is under severe attack on alleged policy paralysis and other issues and Congress is in distress.

The press conference, just months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, will only be the second during Singh's second term as the Prime Minister which began in May 2009 even though he has met five Editors and a group of TV Editors once each.

It will be the third full-fledged press conference in the entire 10 years that he has been the Prime Minister.

The UPA government has been facing criticism on account of "policy paralysis", corruption and price rise and some other issues.

Congress has suffered a setback after the drubbing in recent Assembly elections. Singh is expected to field questions on all these issues at the press meet.

Meanwhile, PMO rubbished reports that Singh would be stepping down before the general elections.

A media report has claimed that he may be considering quitting before the polls.
