K K Paul Governor in Meghalaya; Najeeb Jung Delhi Lt. Governor

President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday named Former Delhi Police Chief K K Paul as the new governor of Meghalaya. Vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia Najeeb Jung, Lt. Gen A K Singh (Retd) and Virendra Kataria were appointed as Lt. Governors of Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry respectively.

An IPS officer of 1970 batch, Paul was Delhi Police Commissioner from February 2004 to July 2007 and later joined Union Public Service Commission as a member on July 26, 2007. Paul was responsible for modernising Delhi Police and launching ‘Parivartan’ in the national capital.

Najeeb Jung, a former IAS officer of 1973 batch, will replace Tejendra Khanna as Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory Delhi. Jung has also served as a senior energy specialist at the Asian Development Bank, a fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and as Director for energy research at the Observer Research Foundation.

Lt. Gen (Retd) A K Singh former Southern Command chief will replace Lt. Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh as Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Bhopinder Singh completed his five year tenure in March this year. Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh was commissioned in the seventh Light Cavalry in 1973. Singh, a graduate of the Staff College at Camberley,  is an expert on warfare and operational planning.

Virendra Kataria, a former Rajya Sabha member and former PCC president will succeed Iqbal Singh as Lt. Governor of Puducherry.
