Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa on Monday greeted her Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi on his elevation as the BJP’s election campaign committee chief.

However, she declined to comment on this development in the BJP, saying it would be politically improper for her to comment on what had happened in another party.

When the Chief Minister was leaving for New Delhi to meet Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, mediapersons asked her about the new assignment for Modi.  Responding, she declined to comment on the development since it was an internal matter of the BJP.

However, Jayalalithaa said, at a personal level and as a friend, she was happy about Modi’s elevation. “Politically, I do not think it would be proper for me to make a comment on what has happened in another party, but at a personal level, Mr Modi is a very good friend of mine. I have high regard for him as an able administrator.  My good wishes are always with him whether he wins elections in Gujarat or achieves an elevation in his own party. I am happy about it,” Jayalalithaa said.
