Residence, office of Saritha, Biju raided

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing into the solar panel scam, has unearthed crucial evidence against Saritha S Nair and partner Biju Radhakrishnan, the accused in the case, during raids conducted at various places across Ernakulam district and Thiruvananthapuram.

Raids were carried out at the residence and office of Saritha Nair at Chembumukku and Tripunithura near here following an order from A Hemachandran, Additional Director General of Police, South Zone, who is investigating the case.

The team headed by Perumbavoor DySP Harikrishnan on Sunday carried out raids at the duo’s rented house at Chembumukku and their franchisee office at Tripunithura.

“We have seized many important documents relating to Team Solar Renewable Energy Solutions Ltd, which will be helpful in unveiling the fraud committed by the accused. The documents include stamp papers, agreements, applications from many customers for installation of solar panels and other products of their company,” Harikrishnan said.

The police are in possession of documents which will indict the accused for a number of financial crimes, including fraud, cheating, forgery and use of forged documents to con clients.

The police team also seized three albums containing photographs of Saritha, Biju and their children. The police confirmed that there were no photographs of politicians or celebrities along with the accused persons. Besides, the police also took into custody one computer hard disc from the house and a solar panel. The police said that the hard disc will be sent to the forensic science lab for retrieving data.

Harikrishnan further said that the team mainly focused on finding details about absconding businessman Biju, who is on the ‘wanted’ list of the state police. “We have no details about him. Through the raids, we have tried to collect more information about him, including his photos,” the officials said.

The police have also seized several mobile numbers during the raid.

Meanwhile, during a raid in Thiruvananthapuram blank cheques and documents were seized from the office of the ‘Swiss Solar Technologies’, the company owned by Biju, on Sunday.

The raid at the office on the first floor of a hotel at Thampanoor was based on a complaint lodged by a customer Mathew Thomas, a retired medical practitioner of the Medical College Hospital, who was allegedly duped of `29 lakh by Biju.
