Medical student gangraped in Manipal

A Kerala-based medical student at Kasturba Medical College, affiliated to Manipal University, was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a gang of three Thursday at midnight.

The accused, still unidentified, later dumped her in front of her apartment and fled.

The gang, which reportedly came in an autorickshaw, kidnapped the 22-year-old student after 11.30 pm, while she was returning to her apartment from the university library, adjacent to Manipal University Building.

Udupi SP Boralingiah said the Manipal University administration, based on the girl’s version, lodged a complaint.

The girl has told the university that three unknown persons including the autodriver, kidnapped and raped her in a remote place.

The victim, who was in shock, was admitted to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal early on Friday morning. “The victim has suffered a fracture on her leg. We think the accused might have dragged her along a slippery surface,’’ the SP said.

The tragedy came to light only after she was brought back to her apartment behind the Manipal University. Abhishek Goyal, in-charge Inspector General of Police, Western Range visited the spot from where she was kidnapped as well as the spot where she was later dumped and ordered investigation. Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj rushed to Manipal police station and demanded the arrest of the accused.
