The CBI team probing the Ishrat Jehan fake encounter case have intensified efforts to trace P P Pandey, former ADG of Gujarat Police.

A special CBI court in Ahmedabad on June 21 had declared Pandey as an absconder. The CBI wants to question Pandey before filing the chargesheet on July 4.  The FIR filed by the CBI stated that Pandey provided ‘crucial intelligence inputs’ to fellow officers which said that Ishrat, a college student, and three others were LeT operatives and on a mission to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Pandey, as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, was heading the Crime Branch when Ishrat, Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an alleged encounter with the Gujarat Police.
