Five killed in road mishap in Chandigarh

Five persons were killed and 10 others injured when a private tourist bus veered off a flyover in Karnal, Haryana, police said here today.

The bus with about 25 passengers on board was on its way to Manali from Delhi when it veered off the Nirmal Kutia flyover near Sector 7 on the National Highway last night, police said.

One of those killed, Kamlesh Patel from Gujarat, is a relative of Union Minister Praful Patel, while one of the injured is a Ukrainian citizen Ulterina, police said.

Ten other passengers of the bus were injured, one of them seriously, police said, adding that the injured have been hospitalised.

Meanwhile, in a road mishap at Nawanshahr in Punjab, five members of a family were killed in a head-on collision between a car and a truck near Jadla Village on the Nawanshahr- Chandigarh Road yesterday, police said.

The family was returning from a marriage in Kurali when the mishap took place, they said.

In another road accident at Barnala in Punjab late last night, four women and two children were killed in a collision between two mini-trucks, police said.
